When I was home in Galway last month, my big sister planned the most amazing early surprise for me – a spa trip to Dromoland Castle in Co. Clare. I have always loved Dromoland castle as we used to take family holidays in a hotel right beside the castle from a young age. I’ve had afternoon tea & lunch at Dromoland Castle previously, however the spa was an EXTRA experience.
Dromoland Castle is a 5 star luxury castle surrounded by 450 acres of golf course and the most stunning green rolling landscape for exploring. The castle has been welcoming guests since the 16th century and is a haven of history & luxury. Dromoland Castle boasts roaring fires, delicious afternoon teas, historic plush suites & bedrooms, the daintiest bathrooms, award winning restaurants, a gym, pool, a golf course and a heavenly relaxing spa.
The drawing room hosts tea and scones as you relax by the fire while sinking into the lavish antique furnishings. Throughout the drawing room and gallery, paintings, hunting mounts and chandeliers make for the most comfortable afternoon of relaxation with a book or a toasty evening fireside after walking the spectacular grounds of the property. Cocktails and evening meals can also be enjoyed in this fabulous area of relaxation.
The cocktail bar, Earl of Thomond restaurant, Fig Tree restaurant and Mrs White’s afternoon tea are also treats and incredibly memorable for special occasions. On this special occasion, I nipped to the spa with my mum and sister for pampering and relaxation.
The spa is an oasis of tranquility, relaxation and resetting. The walk to the spa involves meandering through the corridors of historic castle walls and makes the experience unique. The spa has six treatment rooms with manicure and pedicure rooms in addition to the treatment rooms. The menu of treatments has many options including superfood pro-radiance facials, resurfacing precision peels, indian head massage, reflexology, deep tissue massages and excellent packages. Elemis products are used at the spa during treatments and are available to sample & purchase at the reception. I enjoyed the ultimate wellbeing package where I picked 3 treatments from the following options: Back, Neck & Shoulder Massage, ELEMIS express Facial, Head & Scalp Massage, Brown Sugar Full Body Exfoliation, Refreshing Foot & Leg Treatment, Eyebrow & Eyelash Tint & Shape or File & Polish on Hands or Feet. I could have had all treatments, they sounds so heavenly. All of my treatments were delightful and I left the treatment room floating and incredibly relaxed.
One of my favorite things about this spa (actually I had a couple!) was the outdoor Jacuzzi. We enjoyed time in the Jacuzzi before and after our treatments. The outdoor Jacuzzi is covered by a wooden gazebo and additional relaxation can be had by relaxing in the sunshine on the sunbathing chairs right beside the jacuzzi. There is also a relaxation room to enjoy refreshments after your treatment. Massages chairs, relaxing music, a fireplace filled with flickering candles, herbal teas and snacks await in this sanctuary.
The staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating and made our Dromoland Castle spa experience one to remember. Thanks to my fabulous sister for a pampering birthday surprise – I shall be back! Life is short, go to the castle and enjoy a little pamper time!
